In 2020, natural gas accounted for 31.7% of the EU final energy consumption in households, electricity for 24.8%, renewables and wastes for 20.3% and oil&petroleum products for 12.3%.<\/h3>\n

Imports of fuels from non-EU countries have seen large increases since mid-2021 (Figure 1). In the 12 months to April 2022, imports of fuels from non-EU countries totalled \u00a364.7 billion; an increase of \u00a342.6 billion (193%) compared with 2021, and an increase of \u00a321.8 billion (51%) compared with 2018. This increase was the main driver of increased imports from non-EU countries<\/a>, which were consistently higher than imports from EU countries throughout 2021.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Exports of fuels to EU countries have also increased in recent months; exceeding \u00a33 billion in a month for the first time in March 2022 (\u00a33.1 billion) since records began in 1997. Exports of fuels to the EU further increased in April 2022 to \u00a33.6 billion.<\/p>\n
